The Art of Stickin’ to Your Guns

Inside the craziness of Will’s head:

Good day boys and girls! Will from The Adarna here. Today I wanted to you about stickin’ to your guns. If you’re not familiar with this term, it means to remain firm in one’s convictions. It’s definitely something that is thrown around in the category of “obvious knowledge” however, this context applies to finicky artsy types. With somewhere around 350 shows under my belt I have these tidbits for aspiring venues, bands, bookers, and music lovers.

1) The old days of hair metal bands trashing hotels is over. Most venues are small business owners and this is their baby.

2) Be the change you want to see around you. It’s not easy but you’ll find others like you over time.

3) I think we can all clearly agree that we hate being stood up, lied to, and mislead. Don’t do it to anyone else.

4) Don’t work with people who don’t respect your efforts.

5a) The stage is sacred ground. Your heroes and idols belong there. Honestly ask yourself if you do too. Be prepared or don’t take the stage–there’s plenty of fire-pits you can play your acoustic guitar at.

5b) Not everyone is cut out to be a performer. However, everyone is cut out to create art. Just think of your best way of presenting your art and focus on that. I was reminded of this recently as I watched someone butcher their own song on stage.

6) Nobody in this world wants you to fail. Seriously.
Who goes to a party/bar/venue/park to say, “I knew this place was awful but I came anyway so I could see how right I am!” Or, “I came to watch your band and I was right–you do suck! Ha!” Nobody does that. Everybody looks for those moments of inspiration so we can be swept away. We’re grateful for moments where you break the mind numbing cycles and allow us to be present and in the moment. But you can’t create those moments unless you are fearless. Commit, focus, and believe in yourself because all of us believe in you. We just don’t say it with words.

Saikou Con 2014 – Headlining Artist

We are sooooo stoked!  Have you ever been to an anime convention?  You haven’t?  Weeeeeellllll, let me tell you a bit about my experience with them…
I’ve been a comic book, video game, anime, manga, and martial arts flick aficionado for quite sometime.  I didn’t realize that there is a place where people gather to talk about some of my favorite things.  I just thought that was something you kind of keep to yourself like… going shopping for underwear, working out, or going on long google tangents.  But no!  There is a mecca for all of this joy! They’re called anime conventions and they’re amazing. Although for those that enjoy the adult side of anime’s and manga’s, and like to keep up to date with different animated adult content there’s www.cartoonporno.xxx go right here.

Con-goers are unlike any kind of people that I’ve met in this world.  You can have really honest and fun conversations free of judgement.   Basically, you get to geek-out on being a geek.  It’s a blast!  In conclusion, The Adarna have been asked to perform at Saikou Con 2014 in  Breinigsville, PA.    Here’s a promo video we did for it.  Pennsylvania folk — we want to see you there!

Review: The Adarna rocks The Dawg Pound in Salt Lake and Mojo’s in Ogden

Review: The Adarna rocks The Dawg Pound in Salt Lake and Mojo’s in Ogden
Posted on April 2, 2014 by  in Arts and Entertainment
Immediately before Seattle’s hard rockers The Adarna take the stage, their audience is already at full buzz. The sound of industrial noise and melody fills the air and then The Adarna appears. The band members prowl the stage, like an animal in a cage about to be let out to attack its prey. When the noise subsides, Murdock clicks his drumstick to cue, begins his beats rising from the back of the stage and then all hell breaks loose. Jeremiah Hazel strums bass guitar in front of him. Flanking the bassist are guitarists Andrea Jasek and Neal Winter. Frontman and vocalist William Moore sets himself on stage, front and center.

The Adarna’s stage set is simple but thoughtful with surprise. Stretching above and behind the drummer is The Adarna’s emblematic logo, white lettering on black. Along the front of the stage are amplifiers adorned with light strings, while the house’s multi-colored spot lights are strategically set to cast across each of the musicians. The dreamy vocalist, Will, momentarily ascertains the crowd and situation. Seeing what he likes, he jumps onto a platform designed to illuminate lights inside, casting uplit glows.

Songs are played with a sound best described as musical equivalent to Alice In Chains meets Coheed And Cambria, with the single-best frontman in Rock. Yet no matter how melodic they become, The Adarna never lose their intensity.
Moore gesticulates wildly, makes eye contact with all, and creates stage banter next-to-none. Although Jasek played Salt Lake City and Ogden with a severe case of bronchitis, she was up, front and center, powering through every song. Both Hazel and Murdock use their instruments to add volume and to help keep time. Though newest member, Neal Winter, has not been around long, he delivers an amazing show, night after night, swirling his long locks to the rhythms.
The band members have completely, and utterly, dedicated their lives to their vision. The Adarna is intent on producing superior music.
Their songs are crafted from elements of the past. Present is a little grunge, a little alt-rock and some progressive, making it extremely difficult to pigeonhole this band. Their music is influenced by such a large variety of artists, it would be near impossible to point to one that has any singular defining personality.
Every member of The Adarna openly gives 110% out of the gate every show. If getting signed by a major label, getting rich or getting famous was predicated on outstanding live performance, then The Adarna would be minimally Triple-Platinum. Because of the band’s attention to detail, most audiences are left breathless after The Adarna exit the stage.
Moore is in full command of the stage performance, so much so that the amount of sweat he drips ends up hitting the crowd like a slap. Winter is destroying the guitar with his style and aggression but in complete control of his instrument, illustrating why he was hired on only two months ago for the tour. The rhythm section, Hazel and Murdock, have taken the art form of time keeping and raised its bar significantly. Hazel walks out dead center into the crowd, allowing the invisible “4th wall” between audience and performer to be smashed to bits.
Finally, there’s Jasek. While most musicians would tend to allow smaller things guide their judgment and possibly not perform at all when ill—even at half the illness—Jasek uses her inner drive as a tool to prove others wrong. With beauty and intelligence, she can rock harder on-stage—barely able to breathe—than most male guitarists, who think they’re God’s gift to Gene Simmons.
By the end of the show, an amazing transformation occurs with The Adarna and audience. The feeling is pure elation and gratitude.
Most bands today are satisfied to rock their pro-tools, get their advance from the label, then go out and put on a mediocre show with tired performances. The Adarna are different. Every single ounce of energy is exhausted on the stage. Beaten, sweaty and thoroughly exhausted, Will starts walking through the audience amongst looks of shock and surprise. The look is familiar. It has happened in Montana, Washington, Utah and happens after every show.
To some, having knowledge of the ability to change people’s emotions through performance can make them sloppy or unfocused. For The Adarna, however, this awareness does not detract from the goal each band member shares. Every performance, whether it is for a crowd of three or three thousand, is to be given the exact same energy and effort every time. Each show is the best one of your life. The audience, most certainly, thanks you.

The Adarna to Rock and Rally for the Troops!

Rock & Rally For The TroopsHey guys, this is Will.  We are honored to have been asked by Operation Ward 57 to perform at their Rock and Rally for the Troops!  We wanted to share this news!–you know, the whole put-good-vibrations-out-in-the-world thing…

Speaking for myself, I’m a military brat. Military life has always been something I’ve grown up around and supported.  To believe in something bigger than yourself is an enormous undertaking.  Not all of us are brave enough to do this kind undertaking, and it’s easy for people to place the blame instead of physically trying to make a difference.   The importance of this event is to honor the courage and sacrifices our fellow men/women make for us so we can cherish our freedoms.

To be wounded while defending your family, your brothers/sisters and your country is unimaginable, and we hope you will join us for this event to honor our heroes.

There is a section on Operation Ward’s website if you’d like to help make a donation for Military Veterans.

Rock Lives! The Adarna – Jet City Rock At Its Finest
By Deborah MeadePosted 12/5/13 11:41 PM ET

The-Adarna-Logo-2013
Hidden away in the Pacific Northwest is an incredible band, The Adarna.  Born in Seattle, Washington and expanding their reach across the United States, these incomparable musicians can really rock the house!  The Adarna, named after a Filipino Mythical bird much like the Phoenix, have truly risen from the ashes of the greatest rock legends ever, but with their own unique modern rock sound.  Each original song has a very different feel and flavor one from the next.  The hard driving rhythms and pop smoothness truly give their musical sound an original vibe.  More rock in their souls then any modern rock band you can find today. The Adarna’s original sound and unique variety of interactive entertainment can and will make any event extra-special and fun.  The band’s musical prowess is exceptional.  Every song shows amazing professional musicianship.  What’s incredible is that even as tight as their playing, the Adarna have so much fun with the audience that they play through any mistakes that maybe made, not that the audience would ever know they play so smooth. Many bands are so caught up in themselves that they forget to have fun and let the joy of music flow.  The Adarna seem to communicate with each other Spirit to Spirit to produce this awesome sound that really moves you heart, mind, body and soul.

What is Jet City Rock?  You may well ask.  The Adarna have created their own brand new genre of Modern Rock music.  This completely interactive form of Rock music is reminiscent of some of the Rock legends that influence the Adarna sound, bands like Journey and Guns n Roses.  Jet City Rock is an original breed of Modern Rock born in Seattle and rising from the ruins of an over saturated technology apocalypse which has over-stimulated us into techno junkies.  As a result we as a society are becoming more and more insular with less and less personal interaction.  “People are afraid to be alone with themselves and their thoughts.” Explains frontman, William Moore, “We want to connect and inspire by making people part of something personal and real.”  The lyrics in the original tunes of the Adarna are empowering and connecting.  Any clubs, conventions or colleges would greatly benefit from this Rock n Roll band’s special and unique style.  Keep an eye on the Adarna, because we will definitely be seeing great things coming from this very original band.  The Adarna have certainly risen from the ashes to be born into a totally new reality just as the mythological Phoenix type song bird they are named after. The Adarna’s original songs are relatable, interesting and fun on many levels!  Very reminiscent of Journey and Guns n Roses the lyrics speak to your mind and heart on a higher level while the rhythmic beats and smooth flowing sound grooves together to make you want to move and dance to the musical melodies.
Meet the Adarna:
Will Moore, frontman, lead singer, song writer, and guitarist; this multi-talented musician is really phenomenal.  His voice is so smooth and enchanting that when you listen to the Adarna’s original song, ‘Superman’, you feel Will singing directly to you.  His voice is poignant and deeply touching. A stunning voice that strikes to the core of the listeners’ soul and brings about emotional stirrings in the heart and mind of the listener.  His sensual full bodied voice takes your attention off the awesome physique Will displays on stage during his performance making you remember that Will is so much more then just another handsome rocker with a pretty face.  There is real substance behind his talent.  Will has classical and operatic voice training, making for a harmonious blending of elements from opera, classical, rock, and modern rock.  Creating a unique and powerfully passionate voice with a range of vocalization rarely experienced in today’s rock singers.  His intensity about the empowering music he writes shines through every song.  Will’s bigger then life personality comes through his music and speaks to you about his dynamic passion for music with the solid message that life is a powerful personal experience that we should be living our lives to the fullest interacting positively with our contemporaries.  Will Moore has an intensity all his own and when he starts rocking you can see the ultimate pleasure of a man doing what he loves!
Andrea Jasek, lead guitarist and song writer for the Adarna is an awesome hot rockin’ guitar player.  Her leads are phenomenal.  Close your eyes and Andrea’s guitar licks take you back to the truly great guitarists of the ‘70’s and ‘80’s.  I can hear Slash from Guns n Roses playing through some of the Adarna’s songs, however, the guitar playing is all Andrea and beautifully original.  Andrea reminds me of Joan Jett’s incredibly ground breaking female rocker style though Andrea is truly unique.  The rifts played through the Adarna original ‘Sugar’ are so power – full it’s a mind blowing experience.  The lead is played incredibly well by a truly talented Andrea Jasek.  Reminding me of Angus Young’s power playing in AC/DC, but with her own special touch added in to her great style of play. Guitarist Lzzy Hale from Halestorm comes to mind in the harder edged moments of guitar play, but Lead Guitarist Nancy Wilson of Heart reminds me of Andrea’s exceptional leads during the Adarna original song ‘Gasoline’.  When watching Andrea play you can also see an incredible intensity about the music, but also a great inner peace that only comes from doing what you love and sharing it with others.  The empowering emotional experience of Andrea’s playing inspires you to believe you can do anything!
Jeremiah Hazel, Bass Guitarist & song writer for the Adarna gives the Adarna’s music a genuine heart beat to their sound.  The former Philadelphia native brings a New Wave Punk sound to his playing that creates fullness to the music which comes from a combination of influences.  Jeremiah’s precisely syncopated bass lines give a heart pumping rhythm to the music, which has a hypnotic effect on the audience resulting in a great need to dance to these incredible songs.  There is an incendiary connection between the bassist and the percussionist/drummer within the Adarna that just sets your soul on fire to move.  It is quite literally a spiritual connection that gives a soulful and full sound to the original songs of the Adarna.  Jeremiah’s hard pumping bass gives incredible backbone to songs like the Adarna original, ‘Sugar’.  Jeremiah’s incredibly smooth and fluid playing delivers a fullness of sound akin to Journey or REM.  As you watch the videos of the Adarna playing you can see an intensity of purpose in Jeremiah while he plays that empowers the audience to new levels of synchronicity of purpose.  The observer can truly see the interactive interpersonal relationship that all members of the Adarna share.

Murdock, percussionist/drummer and song writer for the Adarna gives a whole lot more to the Adarna sound then just keeping time.  Native New Yorker, Murdock, has a Jazz, Metal background that brings that New York aggressive style of drumming to the Adarna sound.  Murdock’s particular style of drumming certainly compliments the rhythm of the bass.  Keeping your heart pumping with his incredibly strong beats, the power of Murdock’s drumming is felt in all the Adarna’s songs, but I found it especially evident in ‘Sugar’ and ‘Superman’.  Murdock is a very versatile percussionist.  He gives a variety of beats, changing up the drumming experience in every song.  His drumming just makes you want to move to the beat.  The Jazz influence gives a continuity of sound to his playing that really shows off his abilities!  His beats just flow and move – you can almost see the movement in the music as your ears are hearing it and your body is feeling it.  Murdock is an extremely powerful drummer.  The perfect beats he creates suddenly take over and you feel your heart beating in time with this awesome drummer.  I have mentioned Liberty Devitto before in other reviews, and I usually compare all drummers in my own mind to Liberty, who has always been one of my favorites, but I must say Murdock’s drumming in a very many ways surpasses this fabulous drummer.  The intensity in his drumming just shows that he is doing what he loves, which gives the audience a genuine sense of empowerment as you watch him play.
The Adarna have their own unique style and sound, playing modern rock in a brand new genre of music.  All the players in this band are truly exceptional musicians.  You owe it to yourselves to put down your cell phones and give them a listen. www.theadarna.com  If you get the chance to experience the Adarna live, I highly recommend the event.  It is a show so lively, fun and interactive that you will have lasting memories of this excellent phenomenon.  The Adarna experience is truly interactive, so give these guys a listen and check out their calendar, because to experience them live is to really live!

Summing up, the Adarna are truly a phenomenal modern rock band.  I highly recommend that you give their wonderful music a listen!  Not only are you listening to a great band, you are listening to a truly great musical find.  I expect to see great things coming from the Adarna over the next couple of years.  Certainly, very soon you will see them on larger and larger stages with new recordings coming your way.  Definitely a band to watch, real rising stars of modern rock who will find their way to the top of the heap of bands out there, so make sure you keep an eye out for them.  Whether you are hard core rockers or alt or punk or even dance pop, you will love the Adarna,” Rock Gods Incarnate”  Rock on! And keep having fun out there, because you can really tell that you are doing what you love!  Live the dream.  Remember all you rockers do what you love and the money, success, & happiness will follow!

A Personal Note From Will

Lostprophets

I’m filled with some very confusing feelings that I’ve been wrestling with since I’ve heard the news. I’m sure everybody heard about Ian Watkins from Lostprophets  shameful exploits. If you haven’t, I’ll summarize…he admitted to attempting to rape a one year old, plus a handful of other equally horrendous child abuse violations.

It is horrible, it is evil, and it is embarrassing for anyone who has ever stood-up for him, and also for those associated with him from fans, labels, family, girlfriends, friends, and his entire band, who quit immediately upon hearing the news.

Why are you so butt-hurt Will?

Lostprophets song “Shinobi vs Ninja Dragon” really opened up my mind. Granted, it’s not a deep song or even really that catchy, but it started a spark for me that remains to this day. Their guitar tone was something that really spoke to me. Like many artists, I struggle to write music that pays homage to those who inspire me. Lostprophets wasn’t the only band that left an imprint on me without ever meeting them, but it certainly was a big enough imprint for me to blog about.

I know most people would say that their personal life has nothing to do with their art, but how do you take away a positive message from the art when the artist’s horrible personal life is so shitty?? (e.g. Potty mouth sensation Oasis or eau du piss Mr. R.Kelly).

More than likely he’ll be killed in prison. His art is tainted and ruined. People will not be able to say the band’s name without immediately saying “rapist.”

So what can I take away from this? Sadness, anger, resentment, inspiration… but most importantly to realize that we-who-choose-to-inspire have a responsibility. Whether that’s the role of a father to his son, teacher to their student, doctor to their patient, or artist to their audience. Your actions and your life touches more people than you can possibly fathom.

-Will
