“The Adarna have been around for several years but seem to have finally mastered a rock sound that will take this band beyond the northwest scene. Their new album, ‘How Perceptive‘, which uses a Phoenix as the main symbol of the album exemplifies the bands persona perfectly. They are a band that can lay to rest the voices behind “Rock is Dead”. The Adarna can bring rock out of the ashes, reborn like the phoenix and back into the mainstream… Essentially back to where it belongs.”
The Adarna How Perceptive Soundgate Records Street: 04.27.15 The Adarna = Flickerstick + early ’80s U2 + The Killers
Although most permutations of pop music are not a main construct of my wheelhouse, I must say the tasty slabs provided by Seattle’s The Adarna are pop enough to provide for at least one or two sing-along moments for EVERY SONG, but never go so sugary as to make their album How Perceptive unpalatable after a few listens (which was evident by the fact that I spun the album six times in a row upon first examination). There are rock elements from early ’90s Seattle found on songs like “Sugar” and portions of “Superman,” which are found in two different forms on the album—both “rock” and “acoustic” versions—each of which sound different enough to not make the listener feel they’ve been subjected to “rehash.” Considering the fact that How Perceptive is a debut, I am hoping that my only complaint about the album (not enough music) will be rectified the next time around. It’s always nice to find a band that stays true to their sound. A band that no matter the change of the music landscape, they will play rock with that enjoyable attitude that seems harder to find these days. The Adarna’s new album, ‘How Perceptive‘, is the quintessential rock anthem album which masterfully blends together rock, metal and mainstream.
The album starts out with the anthem like song “Echo.” The song begins with a heavy delay on the guitar which leads right into the verse. The structure of the song is very distinct in that the chorus only comes around toward the end of the song. With an unusual song arrangement, it still manages to hypnotize the listener with this subtle, yet infectious, chorus. You know what this record needs? It needs more Cowbell. Thank goodness for “Sugar” which is a track that prominently features one of my all time favorite instruments. This song has the perfect amount of gritty rock elements laced throughout the entire song to appeal to a very broad audience.
The following song, “Superman” shows the variety of genres this band is able to cross. The Adarna frontman William Moore has a vocal range that allows the band to have limitless possibilities on what direction to take any song. “Superman” continues this anthem like explosion which carries throughout the entire album. The next song “She wants Chemical” shows how heavy the band could take their music. Moore balances a low tone throughout the verses then seems to explode into a higher range in the chorus which intensifies as the song soars into a climactic metal stratosphere. The album ends with a beautiful acoustic version of “Superman.” The acoustic version combines guitar with the alluring and delicate sound of a string quartet which really enhances the mood of the song into a passionate yet ethereal setting.

SEATTLE, WA – Jet City Rockers, The Adarna, the announce release of their 2nd album (How Perceptive). Their CD Release show will be Friday, April 24th, at The Skylark in West Seattle. This will be the followup from their fan-funded 2012 The Adarna EP.
The Adarna are notable for being the first band to coin the genre of Jet City Rock. This was a way to pay homage to their hometown of Seattle while separating their interactive rock style of music from more over-processed, synthesized music. “We want the audience to feel the energy pouring off of us and to be part of that energy–not just watch it,” explains Moore.
To support the release of How Perceptive, The Adarna will be embarking on their 5th North American tour in July 2015, followed by a Middle East International USO tour to entertain the troops in Dec 2015. For full tour schedule please refer to: https://www.theadarna.com/tour.html
A chapter in The Adarna’s history is coming to a close. One of our founding members and bassist, Jeremiah, will be leaving the band to explore other spiritual & artistic endeavors. We love him dearly — he’s a blast to have around, a great friend, and an amazing person. We will miss our Jack Sparrow and we wish him all the best. We are excited for all the opportunities coming in 2015 including the release of our new record, music video, and first international tour. The Adarna will be continuing on without him so please pass on this ad to anybody you feel might be interested: http://tinyurl.com/bass-audition -Will, Andrea, and Murdock.
Whether you’re shopping for a child or an experienced musician, learn the secrets to picking out the perfect musical gift this Christmas.
It’s that time of year again to be making lists and checking them twice! But what do you get for the budding musical prodigy in your life? It can be difficult with all the options out there, especially if you are not familiar with the music world. Do you know if you’re going to be getting them music to listen to, a new instrument to learn perhaps? If you possibly do have a prodigal musiscian to buy for, you might want to also look into getting some of the highest quality sounding preamplifiers or other musical technology from professional audio stores such as Graham Slee HiFi and others, for various audio creation and playback technology.
Luckily, we’ve consulted our very own group of Christmas elves to help you with your shopping a little more this year. Okay, these musicians may not be from the North Pole, but they can help you check the musical gifts off that list with confidence.
For the littlest music elves
Are there little people in your life who have taken an early interest in music? Maybe they’ve already left you behind, and you’re not sure how to shop. Maybe they aren’t interested yet, but you’re hoping the right gift will inspire them.
All I want for Christmas is a lifeline
If you’re completely at a loss about which instrument to select for a new player, try some subtle espionage.
William Moore is the frontman of The Adarna, the first band to coin the genre of Jet City Rock. He is also lead guitarist for The Slants, a Chinatown Dance Rock Band. If you don’t know where to start, Moore suggests some careful observation.
Everyone is drawn to a different instrument based on their personality. Take them to a concert and see what they react to, or see what they’re listening to. That should give you some clues. – William Moore
You may not have the resources to set up a half-dozen first lessons, so try taking the child in question to a music store. Most have a variety of instruments set up and ready to play. See which he or she gravitates to, and where he or she spends the most time.
Gift ideas for experienced musicians
If you’re shopping for a musician who has already found a favorite instrument (or two), and is pursuing his or her talent, it may be even easier to find a great gift.
Gifts for guitarists
On the first day of Christmas, Oliver Denyer recommends two (or more) packs of strings and staying in tune.
Guitar tuners are pretty neat. They save a lot of time, especially when you’re about to perform live. Guitarist always need new strings, find their preferred gauge and brand, and buy them as many packs as you like. This is a no-brainer!
The Adarna members include: William Moore (Vocal Viking, Axe Wielder) Andrea Jasek (Lead Axe Ninja, Vocal Pirate) Jeremiah Hazel (Bass Bomber, Vocal Pirate) Murdock (Drum Blaster, Doom-hammer Mage), and Shana Fairchild (Support Battalion)
The band The Adarna was founded in 2011, can you tell me more about your band’s progression and history? The band was formed in 2011 by myself (Will) and Andrea after our previous band, Veritas, came to a close. We knew what we wanted to see changed and we had a new direction in mind for our music and management. We wanted rock music and we needed to make a touring team that could handle it. When we brought Jeremiah and Murdock into the fold the vision really started to take shape and The Adarna was born. 3 ½ years later, as an unsigned independent artist we’ve completed 4 North American Tours, averaging 80-120 performances a year, 200+ radio stations, with music videos playing in over 78 countries and we’re just getting started.
Your recent “Rise Up Tour” was very successful. The Adarna played some very interesting venues including SaikouCon. Tell us how that all came together? It was really more of a therapeutic tour. We made a list of cities along the way we really wanted to hit because we had followings, friends, and family in the area so we designed a 2 month national tour around a route we chose. Of course, we made mandatory BBQ stops!
Tell us about being on the road on for an extended tour and let’s talk about expenses of going on tour like you have? For a tour that long, not many people can do that, being around the same people 24/7 for 2 months can drive people insane but, we formed this band to be a touring band. On top of that, there’s basic needs to survive and maintain your equipment and sanity. The biggest expense is not financially but in energy. The tour covered our costs but we were stacked with sometimes 2 shows a day 6 days a week. Which means you have to be a master at finding moments to rest and recuperate.
Where did the term “Jet City Rock” come from? Jet City is a nickname for Seattle that came from all the planes Boeing was making. We use the term as a nod to our hometown of Seattle but also to separate ourselves from more traditional styles coming out of Seattle like grunge, metal, and indie. We formed a new sound that doesn’t hide behind technology like backing tracks or pitch correction so we gave it a new name: Jet City Rock.
What makes you different? To add to above, The Adarna is high energy and interactive. We want the crowd to feel what we feel what we feel and interact with us. This is part of our show. So, no shoegazing here. Can you tell me about your local scene. In my opinion, Seattle is the BEST place in this country to play music at. Everybody has at least 1 member in their band that is mind-blowing. I love bands here! It’s a community that we adore and we are proud to be part of it.
What does The Adarna’s future look like? New record to come out early 2015 with plans to tour in Europe. You can get a sample of our singles “Superman” and “Sugar” for the record online. I think the best part is that it’s all in our own hands.
Anything else you would like to add? We wouldn’t be able to make this happen if it wasn’t for the support of our fans and like-minded individuals we’ve found on the way, like Polly! We are very grateful for all your support! Now get yourself to a show ASAP!
I’d like to add that this IS Seattle’s premier rock band. Their shows are most definitely high energy and interactive. If you haven’t seen The Adarna live yet, I highly recommend you take Will’s advice and get to a live show. I promise you will not be disappointed and will find your body with that familiar happy buzz you get when you know you’ve seen and heard something truly special. ~PO Honey
